Adapting for growth

Over the past 102 years the Christ Church building has been the centre of a varied and continually evolving ministry as new generations use the building in their context to the glory of God and for the furthering of the Gospel.

Here we are now, 17 years after the last major change to the building was completed, and we are now presented with the opportunity of further adapting the building to enable and release new ministry in the years to come.

This new proposal of Adapting For Growth will be approached in phases. This document outlines phase 1 and focuses on the café area.

The Café

The new proposals are to expand the capacity of the café in order that we might welcome more people and hold larger gatherings. This would be achieved by installing bi-fold glass doors in the wall between the café and the current crèche room to give us the option of having a larger café but still be able to separate off the room when required.

New flooring to match the floor from the church and entrance hall would be brought through into the café and current crèche room to create one flow through the building. Additional café furniture would be purchased to fill the new space and expand capacity. New heaters would need to be fitted into the extended café space.

Further to this a reception desk area would be created in the café outside the office to provide a more substantial and easier point of information and enquiry both on a Sunday and midweek. On top of all those changes, the whole café would also receive a fresh lick of paint.

The aim of all these changes is to create a hospitable and warm environment to welcome people into with enough capacity to enable further growth in the months and years to come.

There is currently an opportunity to give as you leave the church following each Sunday service, or hand your cash donation to office staff during the week. Please ensure your gift is in an envelope marked ‘AFG1’.
